W.C. Beattie moved to South Florida with his family in 1971 at the age of fifteen, an experience that would shape his life in ways he never could have imagined growing up in New Jersey. Immersed in South Florida's vibrant boating culture, he embraced a lifestyle centered on the water, where long days of fishing, exploring the coastline, and navigating the Intracoastal became second nature.
Owning his own boat opened the door to unforgettable adventures. From cruising alongside sleek go-fast boats and luxury yachts to spending time with friends enjoying everything South Florida had to offer, the water became both his playground and his classroom. Along the way, occasional encounters with the U.S. Coast Guard and other marine law enforcement agencies provided a firsthand look at the unique challenges and personalities found on the waterways.
These experiences, combined with decades of memories on the water, serve as the foundation for the authentic settings, colorful characters, and realistic details woven throughout his latest novel.
